Malakai [Halloween edition]

Whew! What a busy weekend this was!

Growing up, Halloween was never a big deal in my household. Typically, we would go to my grandparents’ houses to show off our costumes, but that was about it. We never went Trick or Treating. The only candy we ever got was from our parents my grandparents (my nana used to make us candy bags…isn’t she sweet?)

Last year for Halloween, my husband was deployed & I was 3 months pregnant…this year was our first Halloween Trick or Treating as a family. All four of us! I wanted to make it special.

Initially, Mal was going to be Steve from Blue’s Clues…but Thursday night, I turned to Ian and said, “That’s lame. No one is going to know who he is.”

And then I went to work.

Friday morning, the kids were nice enough to wake me up at 4:30 AM. They’re so sweet, huh? As soon as Ian left for work I started doing research. I scoured the internet for ideas for costumes that I could make with materials I already had. And then I found this.

I was already thinking of making a robot costume, since I have tons of boxes. But the Wall-E costume was perfect. Mal LOVES that movie!

So, since Friday I worked on my masterpiece….and I want to show you guys the finished product!

The eyes were what took the longest…and of course, he only wore them for half a second. Still, it was totally worth it. The only thing I had to buy for this costume was theĀ  foam for the front part. All together, it was about $10. I probably could’ve done it cheaper without the foam, but I prefer the way it looks with it.

Anyway, I’m totally going to make their costumes every year because I had so much fun with this. However, next year I have to make a less bulky costume. He fell in it once and started screaming because he couldn’t get up. (it was kind of funny).

Hope everyone had a great Halloween!

This is seriously so cute. It’s gonna be so funny for you to see him go through the stages of loving this costume, being embarrassed by it, and then loving it again! :)
I absolutely love it. Homemade costumes are the BEST.
