Nana + a sneak peek of my styled shoot with Simple Elegance

I had everything planned out. I had my photo shoot with Ahelya two Sundays ago and when I returned home that night I immediately wanted to start editing my pictures! But since I hadn’t seen my family in two days, I decided to take break and spend time with them. I figured I would just start editing over the next couple days.

But, that never happened. At around 7:45AM I received a call from my sister. Before even answering it, I knew something was wrong…and for some strange reason, I had a feeling that it would have something to do with my nana. Alyssa, something happened to nana. She collapsed and was gasping for air. All I know is that she is unconscious and the paramedics are working on her now Jessica said, confirming that horrible feeling I had. Immediately, I started sobbing.

Almost one year ago, we unexpectedly lost my grandpa to a heart attack. No one saw it coming…we didn’t have any signs or any warnings. He was just gone. My family has struggled a lot this past year with coming to terms with his death. The first thing I thought when Jessica told me the news was “No, not again”. I don’t think my family could have handled another unexpected loss.

My nana is a very special person to me. She helped raise me and my sister. She would pick us up from school every day and we would go to her house until my parents picked us up at night. Almost all of my childhood memories take place at her house. My favorite comfort foods are her albondigas soup and her chicken enchiladas. She has been there for every choir concert, dance recital, school play, everything. No matter what, my nana has always been there for me.

When I first found out I was pregnant, I was so afraid of disappointing everyone in my family. I was raised in a very religious household and since I was not married and barely out of my teens, I knew I would have to face some harsh criticism from those who I loved most. But when I told my nana, all she did was ask me, “Are you okay, mija?” and proceeded to tell me, “Everything is going to be okay. I love you SO much.” Not everyone gets to experience unconditional love, and I am so grateful that I have someone like her to love me unconditionally. I am so very lucky to have someone like her in my life.

My nana had a heart attack that day. It’s been a really long couple of weeks, but thankfully my nana is a FIGHTER. She is so strong and she is on the road to recovery. It’s going to be a bit of a process, but I know she can do it. I want to thank all of my friends and family for all of their support during this time. It means so much to us!

WHEW. So now that I’m a big whiny face mess, I’m going to end this post with a sneak peek of my styled shoot with Ahelya of Simple Elegance! Full post will be hitting the blog soon!
